Business Plans Non Profit

Question: If I am not a non-profit org, can businesses/companies still use their donation/grant as a tax write off?
I am planning an art show but I am not part of any non-profit organization. It would be fine if the businesses/companies would write the checks directly to the city of Los Angeles because the money is going towards permit fees. Would this still qualify as a tax write off?
The show is a community service project and admission is free.
Answer: It may qualify as a business expense as a sponsorship. However, it will not qualify as a charitable deduction.

Question: Would I benefit from another major?
Hello. I’m currently a high school senior and am going off to school in the fall. I plan on majoring in film and finance, as I intend to become a filmmaker and want to go to law school, to get my J.D./MBA, because law and bussiness are integral parts of film production. Getting my MBA could also help me manage my finances.
However, I am also planning to get certified as a personal trainer to work while in school. Would taking another major, like Exercise Physiology, and then getting a master’s in the field make me a more legit trainer? I know you don’t need a degree to train, but will it help? Is it worth it? Because as it is, I’m looking at a total of 7 years of intensive schooling, 3 for undergrad and 4 for law/business/film school.
Thank you all for your help.
Answer: I'm preparing to go to law school and if I could have done it over again I would have majored in Philosophy which teaches you how to think logically among other things. It is the best major to prepare for law school.
Have you considered a double major? You mentioned that you were considering majoring in Business, Law, Film and Finance...maybe you could pair up a couple. I would advise you to make an appointment with the law school advisor to find his/her opinion or advise for your specific situation.
I majored in psychology because I thought I wanted to be a psychologist and changed my mind the semester before graduation when I found out all of the psychology theory effectiveness remains unproven. aghhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you are thinking of majoring in Exercise Physiology, you may end up being a physical therapist or something in that field. My understanding is that you do not need a degree as a personal trainer. You need a good personality so you can attract clients and you need to know what works and how to teach it to clients so you can train them. My personal trainer won a INBA ring for competing in a Natural Bodybuilding competition. His body speaks volumes and I've never even wondered what his degree is in.

Question: Check this out. Do you know that Microsoft is planning on bringing out a handheld?
January 26, 2006 – In an effort to loosen Apple’s stranglehold on the portable media device market, Microsoft may be contemplating throwing a new device into the fray; one that would most likely include gaming.
Xbox chief Peter Moore told Business Week that a new Microsoft device would most likely incorporate music, video and gaming, the latter of which the iPod doesn’t support. The device, then, would also butt heads with Sony’s Playstation Portable and fall into a category all its own.
“It can’t just be our version of the iPod,” Moore said in the interview.
The fact that Moore commented at all could indicate that the Xbox brand would be used to market the device. Back in 2004, it was rumored that Microsoft was developing a handheld called the “Xboy.”
“I think the brand is an opportunity,” Moore told Business Week.
Microsoft would not comment on the device and even if one is in development, but a representative did say, “Microsoft is committed to innovation
